Most visitors in 2026 reach the Golden Bridge after 10:30 a.m. and find a wall of selfie sticks and a long line at the cable car. Ba Na Hills is still worth the trip, but only if you plan the timing. Here is how to do the day trip from Da Nang without losing hours to queues, fog or bad transport choices.
Getting to Ba Na Hills from Da Nang
Ba Na Hills sits about 25 km west of Da Nang’s city centre. The drive takes 40 to 50 minutes from the beach hotels along My Khe, and a little less from the airport side of town.
- Grab car: Roughly 350,000–450,000 VND (US$13–17) one way. Booking the return trip from the mountain base can be slow at peak hours, so many travellers pre-arrange a driver instead.
- Private car with driver: About 800,000–1,000,000 VND (US$31–38) for a round trip with waiting time. This is the easiest option for a family or a group of three or four.
- Tour shuttle or small-group bus: Around 150,000–300,000 VND (US$6–12) per person for the transfer alone. Many hotels and tour desks sell it. Pickups are usually 7:00–8:00 a.m.
- Motorbike: Possible if you ride confidently. The road is good, but the last stretch is a steady climb and afternoon rain can make it slippery. Rental costs 150,000–200,000 VND (US$6–8) per day.
Everyone ends up at the same place: the Suoi Mo cable car station at the foot of the mountain. Parking for motorbikes and cars is free or very cheap there.
Best Time to Go: Beating the Crowds and the Fog
Arrive at the gate between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. Tour buses from Hoi An and Da Nang unload from about 9:30, and the Golden Bridge is packed from roughly 10:30 until mid-afternoon. Going early gives you the bridge nearly to yourself, softer light for photos and cooler air.
Season matters as much as the hour. February to August is the drier window, with clear mornings most days. September to December is wetter, and typhoon season can close the cable cars entirely when winds are strong. At 1,400 m the summit is often 8–10°C cooler than the city, and cloud rolls in fast. On a foggy day the bridge looks like two stone hands floating in milk. That can be dramatic, but you won’t see the valley.
Check the forecast the night before and look at the hour-by-hour cloud cover, not just the rain percentage. Weekdays are noticeably calmer than weekends and Vietnamese public holidays.
Tickets and Cable Cars: What You Pay and What’s Included
An adult ticket to Sun World Ba Na Hills is about 900,000 VND (US$35) in 2026. Children between 1 m and 1.4 m pay around 750,000 VND (US$29), and those under 1 m usually enter free. Prices change slightly each year, so confirm on the official Sun World site before you go.
The ticket covers the cable car both ways and entry to the Fantasy Park indoor and outdoor rides, the French Village, the gardens and the Golden Bridge. It does not cover the buffet, the wax museum, some special games, or food and drink.
Buy online in advance if you can. E-tickets let you skip the cash counter, and third-party platforms sometimes sell bundles with a transfer for less than the gate price. Keep the QR code handy on your phone.
The cable car is part of the experience. It is one of the longest and highest in the world, and the ride takes about 15–20 minutes depending on the line. As the cabin leaves the station, you glide over jungle canopy and the hum of Da Nang falls silent. Look down for waterfalls on the ride up.
What to See Up There
The Golden Bridge (Cau Vang)
Opened in 2018, this 150 m walkway curves out of the mountainside, held up by two giant stone hands covered in fake moss. It is one of the most photographed spots in Vietnam. Spend 20 minutes here, not an hour. The best angle is from the lawn at the far end, looking back along the curve.
Le Jardin d’Amour
These terraced gardens next to the bridge are laid out in a European style, with roses, fountains and Greek-style statues. They are much quieter than the bridge and good for a slow walk.
French Village
The cobbled streets, pastel facades and clock tower look like a film set. The buildings are modern reconstructions, not originals. Come for the atmosphere, coffee and a break from the crowds, not for history.
Linh Ung Pagoda and the Buddha statue
This is the calmest part of the park. A large white Buddha overlooks the valley, and incense smoke drifts across the courtyard. Dress modestly here: cover your shoulders and knees.
Fantasy Park
This is a large indoor amusement park with rides, arcade games and a 4D cinema. It is mainly for kids and teenagers. If you travel without children, you can safely skip most of it.
A Realistic Day Plan
- 6:45 a.m.: Leave Da Nang by car or tour shuttle.
- 7:45 a.m.: Buy or scan your ticket at Suoi Mo and board the first cable cars.
- 8:15 a.m.: Reach the summit and walk directly to the Golden Bridge.
- 9:00 a.m.: Visit Le Jardin d’Amour and the flower gardens before they fill up.
- 10:00 a.m.: Coffee and a stroll through the French Village.
- 11:00 a.m.: Linh Ung Pagoda and the Buddha, then lunch.
- 1:00 p.m.: Fantasy Park if you have children, or the wine cellar and wax museum if you want an extra activity.
- 2:30 p.m.: Take the cable car down before afternoon showers and the return rush.
- 4:00 p.m.: Back in Da Nang in time for a seafood dinner or a swim at My Khe.
You can finish earlier if you skip the rides. Most adult-only groups leave by 1:00 p.m. Plan at least five hours in total, and six if you have kids.
2026 Budget Reality
Costs rise mostly through food on the mountain and the transport you choose. These are per-person estimates for one adult, with the ticket included. Exchange rate used: about 26,000 VND per US$1.
- Budget (about 1,250,000–1,500,000 VND / US$48–58): Tour shuttle or shared transfer, entry ticket, a simple noodle or rice dish at a food court (about 100,000–150,000 VND), and a bottle of water.
- Mid-range (about 1,800,000–2,300,000 VND / US$69–88): Grab or a shared private car, entry ticket, lunch at the buffet or a French Village restaurant (about 300,000–450,000 VND), plus coffee and a souvenir.
- Comfortable (about 2,800,000–3,800,000 VND / US$108–146): Private car with driver, a guide or fast-track add-ons, a long sit-down lunch, extra attractions and some shopping.
Food inside the park costs roughly 30–50% more than in the city. Bringing a snack and a refillable bottle saves money, though outside drinks are sometimes restricted at certain areas, so keep them in your bag.
What to Wear and Pack
The weather on the mountain is not the weather at the beach. Bring a light jacket or a thin rain layer, even in summer, as the wind on the bridge cuts through a T-shirt. Wear sneakers or sturdy sandals, because you will walk several kilometres on slopes and stone paths. Pack sunscreen, a hat, a small umbrella and a power bank, since you will use your phone camera a lot.
A few mistakes to avoid:
- Don’t carry a large backpack. Bags can slow you down at security and in crowded cabins.
- Don’t assume sunny Da Nang means a clear summit. Check the live camera or the Sun World app first.
- Don’t book a “half-day” tour that ends by noon. You will spend most of it in transit and miss the best light.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the Ba Na Hills day trip take from Da Nang?
Plan for 6 to 8 hours door to door. The drive is about 45 minutes each way, and you need at least four to five hours inside the park. Families with young children who want the rides often stay until mid-afternoon.
Can I visit Ba Na Hills on my own without a tour?
Yes. Take a Grab or hire a driver to the Suoi Mo cable car station, buy a ticket online or at the counter, and explore independently. Signs are in English, and the park is well organised. A tour mainly helps with transport and not much else.
